When current consumption is measured to be high during DW3210 tx

We are using the DW3210, and the measured TX current consumption is higher than the value specified in the datasheet.
In addition, the TX duration is longer than expected compared to the datasheet.

The data rate and preamble settings are the same as those specified in the datasheet, and the circuit configuration uses a DC-DC converter, as shown in the figure below.

Please find the details below:

  1. Circuit configuration
  2. Datasheet current reference
  3. Actual measured values

Hi @Ho-Sung
the TX profile represents the DW3000 current at it inputs, while the your plots includes the DCDC converter which needs to be charged - this includes some additional current. Then the plot also depends on the way how you control the DW3000.

Does your plot includes the MCU power consumption?

Hi. JK
Thank you for your reply.

The current graph shows that the MCU power supply is separate and is used only by the DW3000.
Aren’t the values in the datasheet also current values including DCDC?
Also, could you provide more specifics about the DW3000’s control method?
Thank you.

Hi @Ho-Sung
Im not Qorvo employee so I dont know how they measure it and with what application/ or settings. But my best guess that they have used TDOA blink demo and the TX current profile mentioned 6.8Mbit data speed and 128Bytes preamble length + 12B payload length.

What module do you have and how do you measure it? Can you share some picture?

Cheers
JK

Hi JK

Thank you for your kind response.
This product was developed using the nRF52840 + DW3210, not the EVK.

We are currently conducting further internal review.
We will share any updates.

Thank you.

Hi @Ho-Sung
if you are using this combination then see the 2AB module from muRata. It is ready to go IC including some certifications/calibrations.

Hi JK

Thank you for your advice. I’ll review it and share any updates I have.

Thank you
