Track Apple Watch U1 with PDoA?

I want to make a following robot.

I know that iPhones 11-13 support direction estimates on-device, but I want to go the other way (find direction estimate on my robot). Apple Watches only support finding distance using UWB.

I am considering a DWM3220-based PCB with two antennas (so I can PDoA), but I can’t find any resources on whether an Apple Watch can be used as a simple tag.

Has anyone tracked an Apple Watch from a DWM3000 chipset?

Yes, this is definitely possible. You have an example for iPhone in Qorvo web site, but you will need to significantly invest to an iWatch app, as you should port the iPhone Background example app to the iWatch.
