This schematic capture is one by our own Mike Engelhardt. It illustrates good modeling methodology, resulting in better models than otherwise exist. This schematic capture is in the QSPICE release under File=>Open Demo…=>UCC3802.qsch.
This simulation evaluates the startup behavior of a flyback power supply built around the UCC3802 controller and an ACT4350 transformer model.
The transient analysis captures:
- Controller startup sequence
- Output voltage ramp-up
- Peak current behavior during soft-start
- Regulation settling at the target output voltage
- Transformer and switch interaction during converter startup
The waveforms show the converter reaching regulation while managing the inrush current and startup energy transfer through the magnetic components. One of the strengths of QSPICE is the ability to combine detailed controller models, power magnetics, and transient analysis in a single simulation environment.
