For this week’s QSPICE schematic capture, we have one by our friend Professor Marcos Alonso. Here he uses QSPICE to compare two approaches to modeling a Phase-Shifted Resonant Converter: a full circuit model versus a behavioral full HFA model.
Why does this matter? Detailed circuit models provide maximum fidelity, while behavioral models can dramatically reduce simulation time. QSPICE makes it easy to compare both and verify that the simplified model still accurately tracks critical parameters such as:
- capacitor voltage
- primary current
- output voltage
- startup transient behavior
Professor Alonso has recently published a new book, Modelling, Control, and Simulation of DC-DC Converters, available here. If you’re looking to deepen your knowledge of circuit simulation and mixed-signal design, it’s well worth checking out.
