QSPICE Schematic Capture “BLDCM"

This week’s QSPICE Schematic Capture highlights a collaboration between two valued members of the QSPICE community.

Professor Marcos Alonso originally developed the Brushless DC Motor (BLDCM) model and demonstration circuit for LTspice. Our friend Kelvin Leung then ported Professor Alonso’s work into QSPICE and created this updated, standalone version.

The schematic demonstrates how QSPICE can simulate a complete brushless DC motor-drive system, bringing together the power electronics, control logic, and motor behavior in a single simulation.

Kelvin embedded the BLDCM model and the supporting subcircuits directly within the schematic, so no separate library files should be required. He also updated the simulation comments to reflect improvements Mike Engelhardt has made to QSPICE, which mean that additional damping of trapezoidal ringing is no longer necessary.

You can read Kelvin’s original Qorvo Tech Forum discussion here:

Professor Alonso has also published a new book, Modelling, Control, and Simulation of DC-DC Converters, available here. If you’re interested in deepening your knowledge of power-electronics modelling, control, and simulation, it is well worth checking out.

Thank you to Professor Alonso for creating the original model and circuit, and to Kelvin for bringing the project into QSPICE and making it easy to share and run.

Have a schematic you’d like us to feature? Please send submissions to tim.mccune@qorvo.com.
