Multi-tag + multi-anchor on DW3000 without control channel: is pure TDMA the right MAC?

Single-tag TWR with 3–4 anchors works. I want to add tags without a control channel or master anchor. Is per-tag TDMA the right MAC on DW3000 (anchors use fixed ID-based RESP offsets inside the slot)? If yes, what slot/guard timings at 850 kbps PLEN512? If not, what alternative (slotted ALOHA/CSMA-like) has worked in practice for TWR?

Hi Dango,

This is is a broad topic, and the network topology and MAC will largely depend on the use case and constraints on the system (number of tag, update rate, need for network coexistence).

Most systems are indeed based on TDMA, and then either use TWR or TDoA to calculate the location of an asset. A TWR based system usually requires more Tx & Rx per devices to calculate a distancem and leads to a greater usage of airtime per device. On the other hand TDoA allows to locate assets with a single Tx, but requires a tight synchronisation on the infrastructure side and calculation on the position on a central device.

If you tell us more about what you are trying to achieve we may be able to help further.
