Migration path from DWM1001C/PANS to DWM3001C

Hi all,

I started developing a prototype for a startup in 2020 and have spent several years bringing the product to its current stage. After a number of delays, it is now essentially ready to be demo’d to prospective clients.

The product was designed around the DWM1001C and, in particular, the PANS out-of-the-box solution. PANS has worked extremely well for my needs and provided the positioning functionality I required without significant software development or additional licensing costs.

I’ve recently started looking into the longer-term availability and support of the DWM1001C/PANS platform and what this means for taking my product forward commercially. I can see that the DWM1001C is still listed as being in production and distributors appear to have reasonable quantities in stock, but I’m conscious that it is now an older platform and I don’t want to find myself in a difficult position further down the line.

Is there an efficient and cost-effective migration path from the DWM1001C/PANS solution to the DWM3001 that would allow me to retain similar out-of-the-box functionality without significant redevelopment or additional ongoing costs?

Ideally, I’m looking for something that could provide a relatively quick and seamless transition.

Cost is an important consideration. I’m already working with tight margins, as the product itself is not inexpensive to build, and additional per-unit or recurring costs would have to be passed on to prospective clients in order for the product to remain commercially viable.

Alternatively, given that the DWM1001C is still available, would continuing with the DWM1001C/PANS platform for the foreseeable future be a sensible approach? As I’m still at an early stage commercially, any hardware purchases would need to be aligned with client orders rather than purchased in advance, so long-term availability is very important for me. The last thing I want is to secure a client order only to find I’m unable to fulfil it because the hardware is no longer available.

I would be very grateful for any advice on the most practical way forward, particularly from anyone who has faced a similar decision or migrated an existing DWM1001C/PANS-based product to the newer platform.

Thanks for your reply. That’s an option I have tried and it led me to a couple of solutions that required quite a bit of effort and were quite complex. I don’t have the resources at the moment. The old PANS worked out of the box which is what was so attractive.
