Will other technologies such as SiC MOSFET or GaN catch up to SiC JFETs in terms of RDS∙A?
The JFET always requires less chip area than a MOSFET of similar RDS(on) and voltage rating because the JFET has no metal oxide (MOS) gate. So far, GaN devices are higher cost than SiC JFETs, and they have a more limited voltage range. For the foreseeable future, the SiC JFET is the preferred device for semiconductor circuit protection and relays.
