Inquiry Regarding Operating Current for TGA2567-SM LNA

We are currently using the TGA2567-SM LNA in our application and operating it with a current of 100 mA. At this operating point, we observe a gain of approximately 12 dB at 18 GHz. To improve the gain performance, we increased the current to 114 mA, which resulted in an improved gain of 14 dB at 18 GHz.

We would like to confirm whether it is acceptable to operate the device at this increased current level. Specifically, we are seeking guidance on the following:

  1. Is it safe and within specification to operate the TGA2567-SM at 114 mA continuously?
  2. Are there any potential impacts on reliability, especially during cold and hot environmental conditions?
  3. Could this higher current affect any other performance parameters?

We would appreciate your expert advice on this matter.

Thank you for your support in advance.

Hi,

  1. Absolute maximum specs to bear in mind are 160mA for drain current and 2.8W power dissipation. You should stay within these limits
  2. Increased power dissipation will cause an increase in junction temperature, which will have some impact on reliability (MTTF). The datasheet examples (page 3) include 156mA at 5V, with MTTF 1.6 x 10^8 hours
  3. Higher current can result in small increases in gain and linearity (IP3, P1dB)
