Inquiry about UWB chip recommendation for academic research project

I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Electronics. I am very interested in working with Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology for my research, and I came across your DW1000 chip as a potential candidate for my project.

My research project focuses on smart door security systems that integrate IoT solutions with encryption methods based on chaotic maps. Given this context, I would like to kindly ask for your recommendation regarding the DW1000 or any other UWB chip in your portfolio that you consider more suitable for this type of application. Specifically, I am trying to determine which device would be the best fit for prototyping and experimentation in the context of my studies.

Additionally, I would appreciate it if you could provide information about:

The software tools available (open-source or proprietary) that can be used with your chips.

The software access and resources included with the purchase of your evaluation kits.

Any guidance or recommendations you might have for a student researcher starting with your UWB solutions.

My main goal is to understand which evaluation board or development kit would provide the best starting point for learning, testing, and building initial prototypes that combine UWB with IoT security.

I’d go with the DW1000 for your project since it offers good range and open-source support in the EVK. Check the DWM1001 module for easier prototyping.

DW1000 would not be the recommended part. For a simple project, I would recommend the DWM3001CDK, https://www.qorvo.com/products/ek/DWM3001CDK. This is a good starting point and it supports 802.15.4z which add STS (security).

For budget planning, I would check York University financial resources first, as they list funding deadlines that often align with equipment purchases. On the chip itself, DW1000 is fine for prototyping, but DWM3000 offers better range for door sensors. The EVK includes basic examples, though you will likely write custom code for chaotic encryption. I used DW1000 for a similar test and found its library documentation sufficient for a master’s project.
