External Clock On DW3110

Hello,

Is it possible to provide an external reference clock to the DW3110 IC?

I’m planning to use the DW3110 for wireless hardware clock synchronization between ADCs. However, I’m having some difficulty providing a stable clock source that meets the DW3110’s requirements.

Ideally, I would like to use an external clock source so that the UWB IC and the ADCs can share or be referenced to the same clock. I’m planning to synthesise UWB and ADC clocks using the same PLL of Si5351 IC so both synthesized clocks are related.

Is this supported by the DW3110? If so, are there any specific requirements or recommended configurations for using an external clock?

Thanks!

Would QM35825SR be a better option for this purpose?

The DW3110 supports using an external 38.4 MHz reference clock in place of the crystal.

Please refer to the DW3000 Datasheet, section 3.5 “Reference Clock AC Characteristics.” The external reference must meet the specified amplitude, duty-cycle and phase-noise requirements and must be AC-coupled to the device.

For your application, I would also verify that the Si5351 output meets the DW3000 phase-noise/jitter requirements.
