Meaning of tilda in component names

I notice that the general purpose op-amp component is named Ã1, what does the tilda symbol mean above the letter A?

That it’s using the Ã-Device (see Help about it). It’s just a default name; you can change it to anything else.

It was chosen from the set of available letters with 8-bit encodings because the Latin alphabet has run out of unique letters for component names. Perhaps we should consider a new alphabet because English is NOT Latin. I’m all for bringing back thorn Þ.
